Meltiah W. Lawrence married 2) Mary O. Holland after 1880. They had one son Shirley Gardner Lawrence. Mary died in 1905 and was buried in Dixfield, Maine.
Meltiah W. Lawrence enlisted September 24, 1861 at age 27 in the Band Company, 11th Infantry for 3 years. He left service August 12, 1862, discharged by act of Congress.

Meltiah W. Lawrence passed away at the hospital at the National Home Friday, the cause of his death being heart trouble.
Mr. Lawrence was born in Gardiner, Oct. 17, 1833, and was an upholsterer by trade. He enlisted at Gardiner, Sept. 24, 1861, in the band of the 11th Maine, and was discharged at Harrison's Landing, Va., August 11, 1862. He was admitted to the Togus National Home August 9, 1905.
Mr. Lawrence was a well-known resident of this city and for years was an instructor in dancing andmusic. About all of the middle-aged dancers of this city learned their first lessons of Mr. Lawrence and he was very popular among the young people.
Mr. Lawrence was a very pleasant man to meet nd was always genial even in adversity.
A son, Shirley, who lives in Brookline, Mass., survives.
The funeral was heald yesterday afternoon at the National Home. The remains were brought to this city for entombment at Oak Grove cemetery.
