Ethel Georgia Bates – 92, Bible Hill, passed away in the evening hours of February 1, 2017 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Greenfield, Colchester Co., she was the daughter of the late Perley and Loella (Stevens) McCabe. Ethel was employed for many years with Archibald’s Drug Store on Prince St., where she took her course in Pharmacy. Prior to her retirement in 1999, she worked at MacQuarries Drug Store (West End), Truro. Ethel was a member of St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill and the Royal Canadian Legion. She also enjoyed being a part of the Good Time Senior Citizen Club. Ethel enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors – whether it be camping or gardening. She also enjoyed dancing, bowling, travelling and music. Ethel is survived by daughter, Pauline (Brian) Hawk, Nanton, Alta.; three grandchildren, Quinn, Jaycee and Cory; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Douglas; son, Peter; sister, Doris (Mrs. Frank Sinclair); brothers, Lorne and Arnold; brother in infancy, Roy. In keeping with her wishes, Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating Ethel’s life will be held on Monday, February 6 at 2pm in St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill, Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. A Reception will follow in St. David’s Hall. Spring Interment in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Donations celebrating Ethel’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
