Youngest child of Claudius Kitchens and Anne Marie "Polly" Taylor. Brother of: Franklin Eugene "Frank" Kitchens, Gertrude Kitchens Arthur, Eva Elizabeth "Didee" Kitchens Fullerton.

William Claude "Bill" Kitchens, Sr. 82, retired physician, died in the early hours of December 10, 1999 at Saint Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Montie Carolyn Westbrook Kitchens and lived at 318 Parkway Drive in Athens.
Born in Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Marie Taylor Kitchens and Claudius Kitchens. He received his bachelors degree from the University of Georgia in Zoology and Chemistry before receiving his MD from the University of Georgia School of Medicine. Dr. Kitchens completed an internship at Macon Hospital, served two years active duty in Italy and Germany dudring World War II, and completed 3 years post-graduate study in internal medicine and cardiology in Augusta, GA at The University Hospital.
He began private practice in internal medicine and cardiology in Athens in 1949, at which time he became a memberr of the medical staff at both Athens General Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital. He had the honor of being a past president of the medical staff at St. Mary's as well as a member of numerous committees at both hospitals over the years. He was a member of several medical associations including the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the National Rehabilitation Association where he was an instructor for counselors, and the Crawford Long Medical Society where he was a past President and Secretary. Additionally, he was a memberr of the Retired Officers Association and Kiwanis Club.
Dr. Kitchens was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, having served as Deacon.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 1999, at First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Dr. W. Glenn Doak will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ila.
An honorary group of special friends are: Dr. Bolling DuBose, Dr. Delone Muse, Dr. Philip Warga, Dr. Jack Palmer, Dr. James Green, T. R. Wilkerson, Ed Fortson, and F. Flournoy.
The family will receive friends at the residence after 4 p.m. on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Athens Building Fund, or the Epilepsy Foundation.
