Francis G. Rodowicz (Frank) was an accountant with Sears Roebuck and Co., and a musician. He was 52 and lived at 5651 Loretto ave.
Frank was with Sears for over 30 years. He was also a free-lance trombonist.
During his long career in music, he played with Paul Whiteman and Elliot Lawrence on broadcasts originating from here.
He played with the U. S. Naval Training Station Band in Newport, R.I., under Artie Shaw during World War II, and
when Shaw left for the Pacific, Mr. Rodowicz became bandmaster.
Mr. Rodowicz's musical career began shortly, after his graduation from Northeast High School in 1935.
He was a memher of the first Polish American String Band, playing the guitar.
After his tour with the Navy, Mr. Rodowicz attended Philadelphia's Columbia Institute and joined the staff of Sears.
As a musician, Mr. Rodowicz remained in Philadelphia and Atlantic City, shunning the life of one-nighter's.
He said he was "on call" for anyone who might "try to get up a band like in the old days".
Mr. Rodowicz played with the bands of Meyer Davis, and Tex Beneke in Atlantic City.
He had played in concerts under the direction of Skitch Henderson, when he came to town.
He also played in separate shows with Tom Jones, Rowan and Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and Petula Clark when they appeared at the Spectrum. He also appeared regularly with the Ringling Brothers - Barnum and Bailey Circus during their engagements in Philadelphia.
Mr. Rodowicz was survived by his wife, the former Valentine Mlodzinski, two sons, Francis and Richard; a daughter, Mrs. Cecile Orysiek; his mother, Mrs. Rose Rodowicz, two brothers and two grandsons. Requiem Mass was held Wednesday July 22 at 10 A.M. in St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, 5450 Roosevelt Blvd.
