He enlisted in the United States Army on March 1, 1944, At Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, to serve in World War II. He was discharged from active duty on April 26, 1946.
He took as his bride, Miss Emma Mae Williams, on February 28, 1934, in Delaware County, Indiana. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in February.
Surviving are his Wife, Emma, and their son, Larry K. Brankle.
Walter was laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery on March 20, 1984, in Merrillville, Lake County, Indiana. Funeral arrangements were handled by Geisen Funeral Home.
