Columbus, Kansas - July 18 - Mrs. Ninnie M. (Bennett) Merrick, 75, widow of Albert J. Merrick, and a lifelong resident of Cherokee County, died at 10:25 a.m. o'clock Monday morning at the Columbus City Hospital, where she had been a patient for the last three days. She had been in failing health for the past year. Born May 15, 1885, near Lawton, Kansas, in Cherokee County, Mrs. Merrick was reared there. She was married to Mr. Albert J. Merrick February 16, 1910, in Carthage, Missouri. After that they lived on a farm near Lawton until Mr. Merrick died December 23, 1931. Mrs. Merrick has lived in Columbus since 1948.
Survivors include one son, Walter French Merrick, of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita L. (Merrick) Rowden of Columbus, and Mrs. Mattie Marie (Merrick) Bicknell of Marysville, Kansas, six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie (Bennett) Lofton, Waco, Missouri and Mrs. Clara Ethyl (Bennett) Sigars of Los Angeles, California and one brother, James Bennett of Joplin, Missouri.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ruhland-Murdock chapel in Columbus, with Rev. Ronald Starr officiating. Burial will be in the Old Pleasant View cemetery.
