Married Amos M. Hall, April 5th, 1864
Douglas, Illinois

Married Walter Merrick, October 10th, 1895
Cherokee County, Kansas

Mrs. Maggie Merrick, wife of Walter Merrick of Lawton, Kansas died at her home at that place on July 3rd 1905, at 68 years of age. The funeral services were held at Rawlings Chapel at 2 PM, July 5th, and was largely attended and conducted by the pastor of that charge, Rev. Chatten from 14th John 1st, 2nd, and 3rd verses. Interment at Pleasant View cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Merrick had but recently returned from a two weeks pleasure trip to several points in Oklahoma and Indian Territory. Neither of them had been at all well since their return, but she was up and about the greater part of the time. At about 6 PM of the 3rd she raised up from the couch where she had been lying some little time and told the friends sitting by that she was very, very sick. She then lay back and almost instantly ceased to breathe.
Maggie Rawlings was born near Rushville, Indiana in 1837 and grew to womanhood there. She was the oldest of a large family and her mother died and left her the care of several younger brothers and sisters. She took care of her aged father until his death two years ago.
She was married to Amos Hall in 1863, and to this union three children were born, Edith, Kirby and Irwin. She moved to Kansas in 1868 and settled in Pleasant View Township. She was married to Walter Merrick in 1896.
Mrs. Merrick leaves her husband, Walter Merrick, two sons Kirby and Erwin Hall, who are now in Montana, two brothers, John Rawlings of Columbus, Kansas and Preslie Rawlings of Sadorus, Illinois, three sisters, Mrs. ME Hickson and Mrs. Mollie Baldwin of Sadorus, and Mrs. A Little of Walnut, Kansas, besides many other relatives and friends who are saddened by their loss.
Though her departure was sudden she had long been prepared. She became a Christian when very young and united with the M.E. church, and she was always a regular attendant of religious services, a faithful student of religious services, a faithful student of the bible and practiced its teachings. There are but few members of the Rawlings Chapel congregation who have not a sometime been members of her Sunday school class. She was naturally of a cheerful disposition and always had a pleasant, kind word for everyone with whom she came in contact. She was a wise counselor and sympathetic friend. Wherever there was sickness or sorrow within her reach she was to be bound with a helping hand and words of cheer and comfort.
Truly like her master she went about doing good, and now we are sure she has heard His welcome voice saying, "Well done thou good and faithful servant."
