Marjorie J Rock, retired Lieutenant Colonel of USA, died Feb 10, 2017 at United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton. A graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton. Ms. Rock, 96, was born Nov 12, 1920 in Sea Cliff on LI. In the early depression she moved with her family to a family farm in DePeyster. She graduated from Heuvelton High School in 1937; and attender the Wallace Secretarial School in Ogdensburg; in 1941 she graduated from nursing rogram at Flwer Fifth Avenue School of Nursing in NYC. As a RN, she joined the USA Nurse Corps in 1942, serving in the USA in North Africa and Italy. Upon discharge she went to school under the GI Bill, attending teachers college at Columbia University receiving her bachelor of science degree in 1948 and Master of Arts in 1950. She taught in three year nursing programs 1948-1954, first as a nursing instructor for Hartford Hospital and then at Lenos Hill Hospital in NYC. She returned to the army in 1954, and providing educational assistance in US, Japan, and Germany, Korea, Vietnam. She retired from military in 1970, then returned to Ogdensburg to care for her mother. Ms. Rock was an active member of St. John's Church. She was a life member of AmVets, American Legion and the Military Officers Association of America; OES, State of NY St. Lawrence Chapter No 60.
Marjorie Rock, daughter of Wallace and Leta Holland Rock. A brother, First Lt.Wallace E (Bud) Rock, lost his life Jun 22, 1944 piloting a P-47 Thunderbolt plane over Normandy, his remains ere unearthed in 1993 in Marchesieux, France and in 1997 his remains were returned to US and buried in the family plot in Heuvelton. Marjorie will be interred in the same plot, the Rev. Kathryn Boswell with St. Phillip's Episcopal Churchin Norwood, will assist with the graveside service. Arrangements with Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
