Esther L. Hochrein,age 79,of Scio Township, passed away on April 11,2013,after a brief ill- ness. She was born October 11,1933 in Ponti- ac,MI the daughter of Charles and Bertha Legge. She was raised in Pontiac,MI and grad- uated from Pontiac High School in 1950. In 1953,she married John Hochrein,her husband of 59 years. She,along with John enjoyed many cultural activities,especially the Purple Rose Theatre and the Michigan Theater. She was active in the community with Girl Scouts, Child Study Club and also volunteered for a number of years with the Dexter Bands. Esther enjoyed being involved with the elections and worked as an Election Official for a number of years. Along with her family,she enjoyed play- ing golf and vacationing,especially to Mackin- ac Island and Northern Michigan. Esther was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles,Scrabble,Boggle and pretty much any word game. She made candy at Christmas time and enjoyed sharing it with fa- mily and friends. She was also a great sports fan and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and the University of Michigan football and basketball teams,most recently following closely the great NCAA tournament run of the basketball team. She loved spend- ing time with her family and playing with her granddaughter. She was always a willing pati- ent in her granddaughter’s play hospitals and an enthusiastic customer in her wide variety of beauty salons,restaurants and sweet shops . In addition to her husband,John,she is survi- ved by her four children,daughter Deborah of Ann Arbor,and sons Jon of Scio Township,Kurt (Heidi) of Scio Township,and David of Scio Township; and beloved granddaughter Veron- ica. She was preceded in death by her paren- ts,brothers Robert,Ronald (Bus),and Norman; and sisters Elsie,Ruby and Betty. A Memorial Service is planned for immediate family only.
