MRS. ALICE LAURA MURPHY PASSES-
Mrs. Alice Laura Murphy, 85, dies Sunday afternoon, March 16, 1952, in the home of her son, Mr./Mrs. Leo Murphy, N. Nettleton, following a long period of weakening.
Alice Laura Kelley, only child of Ellen Mullan and Thomas Kelley, was born in Omaha, Nebr., January 22, 1867. When quite young she moved with her parents to the Plattsburg community, where she grew to womanhood. On January 28, 1884, she was married in the Plattsburg Catholic Church to Patrick Murphy of Plattsburg. They established their first home in Plattsburg where they lived for a few years then moving to a farm near Fonda, where they knew the struggles of pioneer farm life. In 1905, they purchased a farm, four miles north of Cameron where they lived until 1918, when Mr. Murphy retired from active farm duties and they moved to Cameron. Mr. Murphy died March 16, 1938, and since the Mrs. Murphy has made her home with Mr./Mrs. Leo Murphy. So long as Mrs. Murphy was able she was faithful in attendance at the services of her church. Her home and her children interested Mrs. Murphy far more than social and community activities.
Nine of the Ten children survive: Mrs. John (MARY)Barry, Mrs. James (NELLIE), THOMAS, MARTIN and LEO Murphy, all of Cameron; WILLIAM Murphy, Denver Colo,; CORNELIUS Murphy, Osborn; JAMES Murphy, Akron Colo,; and FRANCIS Murphy, Kansas City. She leaves 29 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Funeral rites in charge of the Poland Funeral Home were held from Saint Munchin's Catholic Church Wednesday morning, 10 o'clock with Rev. Dennis O'DDulgnan reading High Mass. The church choir assisted in the services with Mrs. Mildred McAnaw at the organ. Burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery. The following grandsons served as scasket bearers: Leo Murphy, Martin Murphy, James Murphy, Thomas Barry, & Francis Barry, and two grandson-in-laws, Raymond Whitaker and Melvin Kochner.
