Darling Max (red and white) lost his brother Taz in 2011 and survived until 2016. He came to us named Peanut and it certainly did not fit. Max was more appropriate. At times he could be a bully and acted like a father to his smaller brother. He was persnickety at times, but very lovable. He had yellow eyes and beautiful lush fur.

We adopted both Taz and his brother Max in 2002, so they would not be split apart. They were about 2 years old. Once they grew up a little and stopped destroying our house, they calmed down some, but went back to destroying the house, a little less frequently. I just have to assume, they had fun doing it. We tried to keep them as indoor cats only but if the door was opened, Max would make a beeline outside. Eventually, compromising, they were let out during sunlight and back in before dark. He did enjoy frolicking in the nepeta or catmint from time to time.

They had so many cat toys, but often preferred living ones. Max and Tax loved to bring in many local blue bellied lizards, a baby rabbit, a hummingbird, a few morning doves and house finches and more mice than I'd imagined were around. I did my best to secretly return the critters outside, and release them when I could. Often it was too late for the small lizards and mice. Ah, the circle of life.

Older photo of brothers Max and Taz (on the left). During the day, if I was in the office working, they loved to camp out there, together in one of two cat beds. In cool weather they'd share one of the two beds, like in the photo.

His brother Taz died in 2011.

He was loved and will be missed.
