Joy Ann Woody, 78, of Crowder, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, in Muskogee. Joy was born on Sept. 14, 1938, in Canadian, to Lester and Lola Barlow Gann. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1956. She married Leon Woody on May 19, 1956, in McAlester. Joy spent two years at Wilburton Eastern Oklahoma State College and then graduated from East Central State College with a bachelor of education. She taught 18 years as a kindergarten teacher in the Crowder school system and another seven years teaching the 4th grade. Joy was a member of First Baptist Church of Crowder. Joy was a very good artist and enjoyed painting and playing the piano. She was very involved with running her ranch while her husband, Leon, was alive and also involved after his passing. Joy was very happy running the ranch and she was involved with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; a daughter, Robin Ichord; sisters, Mary Banks, Carol Shackelford and Earlene Bice, and a brother, Larry Gann. Sevices will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. G.C. Gray and the Rev. Alvin Nixon officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
