Jeanne Elizabeth Warren DeSalvo, 86, died peacefully on Saturday, July 18th in Norwalk Hospital of complications from advanced colon cancer. A Norwalk resident for 75 years, Mrs. DeSalvo had resided at 12C Cross Highway in Westport since May, 2004. Daughter of the late Thomas H. Warren and Norma Ryder Warren of Norwalk, Jeanne was born on October 7, 1928 and attended Norwalk schools and the Merrill Business School. She married Arthur E. DeSalvo, Jr., of Rowayton, on May 14th, 1955. Jeanne and Art met while they were both working at the architectural firm of Eliot Noyes and Associates in New Canaan, where Art became a full partner before starting his own firm, Group Six and Associates, in Norwalk. They were married for 42 years. Jeanne later worked for local interior designer Dorothy Karg and served as treasurer for the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield. She also volunteered in the office of the Unitarian Church of Westport and worked for a local psychologist for a number of years. Jeanne was an avid reader and enjoyed tennis, jazz music, good films, contemporary art and design, and summer vacations to Provincetown, MA. She had many dear friends. Her two grandsons were her greatest source of pride and joy and she was a devoted grandmother. Predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur, who died on August 4, 1997, Jeanne is survived by their daughter Tracey A. Lengyel and her husband Perry Lengyel of Norwalk, two grandsons John and Alex, a sister Mae Pennington of Norwalk, three nieces, five grandnieces and two grandnephews, two great-grandnieces, and a great-grandnephew. Arrangements were handled by the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory. There will be a memorial service for family and friends at the Unitarian Church of Westport on 10 Lyons Plains Rd. on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at 5:00pm. Mrs. DeSalvo's ashes will be interred alongside those of her husband Arthur in the Memorial Garden of the Unitarian Church in a private ceremony for immediate family prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, it was Jeanne's wish that memorial contributions may be made to one of three local organizations: Project Return at 124 Compo Rd. N., Westport, CT 06880, the Norwalk Hospital Foundation at 34 Maple St, Norwalk, CT 06856, or Westport Volunteer EMS at 50 Jesup Rd, Westport, CT 06880.
