Arline and her mother moved into town to help care for her grandmother. While living there, she learned to speak German from her grandmother. She received her education from the Fairfax School system, graduating in May of 1943. While in school, she held jobs in several places. After graduation she enrolled at Black Hills Teachers College at Spearfish, South Dakota, receiving her teaching certificate.
She taught school for 2 years. In May of 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Shipman, and settled on a farm. She was a good farmhand, helping at haying time and many other chores. During her teaching career, and to further her education, she attended college at Springfield, South Dakota. She taught most of her 40 years in the Fairfax and Bonesteel schools. She loved teaching and her students loved her. Many to this day still inquire about her.
Arline enjoyed square dancing and the many places they traveled. She enjoyed her family.
Arline was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her daughter, Barbara; her parents, grandparents and numerous other relatives.
