Son of Sidney A. Cowan and Mary Ann Cowan, of Port Carling, Ontario, Canada.Walter was a Flying Officer, while on a mission over Germany his Air Craft was hit by flack. Walter was killed in action. He was laid to rest and buried at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey England in December 1944. He was a twin and named after his father.

Brothers: William Stuart Cowan(his twin)
Norman Edwin Cowan
Isaac Clifford Cowan

My Grand Mother (MOM) Agnes (Matchett) McCaw was the sister to Walter's mother Ann.
MOM, my Grand Mother saw that I was able to know her family in Canada. I remember spending three summers at Port Carling with Uncle Sid and Aunt Annie. I was told stories of Walter. I remember that his Canoe was overhead in the boat house. I was told that Walter place it there when he went off to war. My Grand Mother (MOM) told me of when her sister Ann received the notice of Walter's Death. She told me that her brother Jack's wife was at Aunt Annie's house when notice of Walter's Death was given. Walter's picture and medals were displayed in the Cowan sitting room. I would look at him and his two brothers pictures. I was ten months old when Walter was killed. But his family were warm and easy to belong too.

I would like to thank M.Richards (Mary) for her kindness in her sponsorship of Walters memorial. His family was proud of his service and it warms our hearts to know he is still remembered after all these years.

Many blessings dear Mary
