OPELOUSAS: Funeral services for Barbara Boudreau Wiltz Ledet, 86, will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at 12:00 PM at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, with interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

She died February 22, 2017 at 8:01 PM at her home, surrounded by her six devoted children after fighting a long, valiant battle with cancer.
Barbara, our precious mother, was a native and long-time resident of Opelousas.

She was born on June 19, 1930. She was a 1947 graduate of Opelousas High School. A gifted pianist, she attended SLI (now UL) where she studied music. There, she met, then married, Lawrence J. Wiltz in 1948. They lived in Melville for 25 years, before moving back to Opelousas. Barbara and Lawrence were married for 55 years until his death in 2004. In 2011, she was fortunate to find love again and married Jerry C. Ledet from Cut Off, LA.

Above all else, Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the most amazing Mom and a true gift to all of us. She was a woman of tremendous faith, courage and heart. She taped handwritten messages inside cabinet doors reminding us to ''Don't worry about anything. Pray about everything. And, be thankful.'' She loved all things green and growing, spending many hours tending to and enjoying her plants and flowers. She was an accomplished iconographer, artist, and seamstress. Her hands brought beauty into the world through many creative pursuits, including knitting, needlepoint, oil painting, crocheting, ceramics, and music. She enjoyed exploring the world and learning about different cultures throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. She instilled this love of travel and adventure in her children. She was an avid birdwatcher and hosted many feathered friends to her backyard feeders. She was a devoted daughter and brought cheer to her mother and other residents of Prompt Succor for 15 years. She gave generously to charities that touched her heart. Her involvement in the Sweet Heart of Mary Rosary Group was one of her greatest joys. She was also an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, as well as the Marianites of Holy Cross.

She will be greatly missed by her adoring husband and our step-father, Jerry Ledet; four daughters: Bonnie Fairbanks, Holly Davis and husband Byron, Beth Freeman Stanard and husband Dave of Houston, Ellen Satterly of Opelousas; two sons: Lawrence (Larry) Wiltz and wife Peggy of San Antonio, and Michael Wiltz and wife Connie of Opelousas; son-in-law Fred Shuffler and wife Peggy of Houston; four step-children: Brian Ledet and wife Michelle of Baton Rouge, Madisson Ledet and partner Donna Vidrine of Houston, Lynne Ledet-Klibert and husband Henry of Virginia, and Stephen Ledet and wife Maria Cangemi Ledet of New Orleans; and fourteen grandchildren: Alice Fairbanks, Evan Fairbanks and wife Nina, Monica Rosenstein and husband Charlie, Catherine Callaway and husband Clayton, Phillip Freeman and wife Brandy, Joshua Freeman and wife Jennifer, Elizabeth Satterly, Stephen Satterly and fiancé Michelle, Joe Wiltz and wife Laney, Leslie Wiltz Carrera and husband Matt, Logan Wiltz and fiancé Michelle, Julian Wiltz and fiancé Becca, Sarah and Laura Wiltz; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who also consider her a second Mom.

She was widowed by husband, Lawrence Wiltz and preceded in death by her father Kirtley Boudreau, mother Bonnie Kerr Amy, step-father Charles Clay, brother Kirtley Boudreau, and sister Donna Sovey.
