Mrs. Abbott was born June 20, 1934, in Mercer to Emmett E. and Gladys Mae Filer Thompson. She was a 1952 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage. As a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon, Mrs. Abbott sang in the Chancel Choir, belonged to the Presbyteers Sunday school class, taught Sunday school through the years and helped in the kitchen cooking for the youth club and church retreats. She was an avid bowler, having belonged for many years to the Tuesday Morning Breakfast League at the former Hickory Bowl in Hermitage.
