He was the husband of Linda P. (Carreiro) Fish, to whom he was married 36 years.
"Fishy" worked as a chef at several local restaurants on Cape Cod over the course of his life, including the Dome Restaurant, The Willowfield, Falmouth Hospital and the Nobska House. He loved to cook and everyone loved his food. He shared his cooking talents with his family by preparing delicious banquets for holiday meals and family gatherings.
His true passion was cooking but he also loved the ocean, boating and helping others. Although he struggled with his own battle with his illness, he managed to help others with their battles.
Steve was born at Otis Air Force Base. After graduating from Falmouth High School in 1978, he served in the Army. He was a jack-of-all-trades from remodeling rooms at the Nautilus Motor Inn during the off-season with his dear friend Arne Grepstad to a venture into the floor covering business with his late brother-in-law Danny Carreiro as C&F Floor Covering in the early '90s. His final dream was to own his Fishy's Collectibles store on Main Street in Falmouth in 2014.
He had the biggest heart of anyone. He loved his family and his friends deeply and everyone around him knew it. He was great with children and was admired by his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is leaving behind a huge hole in the hearts of so many people. He was hilariously funny and had a unique laugh that filled the room. He could make a whole room laugh like they've never laughed before.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stacey Hooper of Yarmouth, Stephen Fish Jr. and his wife Jane of Sutton, Vt., Sean Fish and his wife Martha of Falmouth, and Jennifer McAleavey and her husband Chris of Remsen, N.Y.; grandchildren Summer, Evan, Nicholas, Ethan, Arielle, and Claire; siblings Peter Gonyer of Minnesota, Shirley Fish of Clarksville, Tenn., Susan Wilson of Falmouth, Holly Nightingale of Mashpee, Jeanne Cliff of Forestdale, Shari Fish of Marstons Mills, and Jo-Anne Ferguson of Mashpee; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry C. Fish Jr. and Margaret J. (DeChane) Fish; a brother, Harry C. Fish III; and nephew Jacob N. Fish.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth Center. A eulogy will be read at 9:45 a.m. Monday, March 6, at St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main St., Falmouth, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery.
