"James "Jiggs" Charles Bowers, Sr., of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away peacefully, August 20, 2009, at the Veteran's Home in Cameron, Mo.

He was born in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, to Johnson R. and Rose Alba Bowers. The family moved to St. Joseph in 1931. He attended Central High School and married Mildred Marie Meyer in 1936. He served as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps for three years during WWII. He returned to St. Joseph and became involved as owner/operator of several businesses including "B" Amusement, Lake Contrary Amusement Park, Corby Cigar Stand, Triple "B" Trail Court, and Bowers Brothers Inc. He was a lifetime member of Iron Workers Local #10. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and 50 year member of the Moila Shrine.

Jiggs was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his brothers, Kenneth and Robert; and his sisters, Bernice Harm, Fannie Shiver Bird, and Audrey Beakley.

He is survived by his son, James C. Bowers, Jr., and wife, Elaine of St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Rosan Bowers of St. Joseph, Missouri and granddaughter, Kelly Bowers of Charleston, South Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 27 at Robidoux Row Museum, 3rd and Poulin."
