THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, 16 November 1933, page 1. "FIFTY YEARS WEDDED CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Young Observed Golden Wedding Anniversary Last Saturday, November11. On November 11, 1883, at the rural home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Gibson, in Jasper county, William Young and Miss Leuretha Gibson were united in marriage, Rev. John Smay, of Colo, itinerant Methodist Protestant minister, officiating. Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Young celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, about sixty invited friends and relatives gathering at their home to assist in commemorating the event. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Young lived in a log house on the farm now occupied by Harley Norton in the Farrar neighborhood. They have lived on farms in Polk, Jasper and Story counties and for the past 20 years have been residents of Maxwell. Four children were born to them, two daughters, Alta and Blanche, and two sons, Fred and Joe. The daughter, Blanche, passed away in 1913, and son, Fred, in 1924. Dinner was served to about sixty at noon in the dining room of the Methodist church, four of the waiters, Jeanette Nason, of State Center; Ethel and Arlouine Norton, of Farrar, and Mildred Scott, of this place, being great-nieces of Mrs. Young. They were assisted in serving by Miss Lela Scheuermann. The color scheme of the table decorations was yellow and white, each of the three tables bearing a centerpiece of yellow chrysanthemums, with burning tapers placed at intervals. On the head table at which the honorees and near relatives were seated, was the wedding cake, decorated with yellow roses, and at the proper time Mrs. Joe Young cut the cake and distributed the pieces to the diners. The cake was baked by Mrs. Elsworth Gibson and Mrs. Ray Mills. Following the dinner all repaired to the Young home where a delightful program was enjoyed, with Rev. W. M. Scheuermann as master of ceremonies. A portion of the program consisted of the singing of several of the favorite hymns of Mr. and Mrs. Young. Mrs. Bertha Kennedy and Arlouine Norton gave readings and Miss Jeanette Nason sang "O Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly," accompanied on the piano by Wayne Richards, of State Center. The bride and groom of fifty years ago each gave reminiscent talks and the program closed by all singing "Home Sweet Home." There were present at the anniversary four who attended the wedding. They were Mrs. John Graham, Els and Sam Gibson and Dave Pearson. It was an enjoyable occasion and this worthy couple were not only the recipients of the congratulations of their many friends, but of several useful and beautiful gifts, among them two potted plants, one a yellow chrysanthemum from Mr. Young's sister, Mrs. Rebecca Hanbury, of Des Moines, and the other American Beauty roses from A. O. Hauge, also of Des Moines. Guests other than the honorees, attending the anniversary were: Mrs. Rebecca Hanbury, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Mabel McClannahan, of Mitchellville, sisters of Mr. Young, and Reginald McClannahan, of Mitchellville; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hanbury, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gannon, of Mingo; Mr. and Mrs. Emery Nason and daughter, Jeanette, Wayne Richards and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shoppe, of State Center; Samuel Gibson, of Marion; Mr. and Mrs. David Smith and daughter, Pearl, and Mr. and Mrs. Stark Atwood, of Collins; Mr. and Mrs. Harley Norton and daughters, Ethel and Arlouine, of Farrar; Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. Harding Witmer, Mrs. Hazel Young and son, Arden, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Young, Alta Young, Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Woodman, Henry Heiner, Mr. S. E. Cooper, Mrs. Bertha Kennedy, Mrs. Minnie Kimberley and daughter, Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Olinger, Mr. and Mrs. Els Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Tomlinson, Mr. and Mrs. A. F.
