Nancy Gaunt, 78, of Keokuk, passed away on February 12, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Nancy was born on August 1, 1938, the daughter of Joseph and Muriel Gaunt. She came to Keokuk in 1959, and started teaching kindergarten at the Lincoln School beginning in 1959. She taught kindergarten in Keokuk until her retirement in 2000. She was an active member of the Keokuk community, and a devout member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk. Nancy was a member of the church women, and served as a reader and chalice-bearer at the church. Nancy participated in many community events and organizations, a few of which include the AAUW, or American Association of University Women (where she received her fifty year pin), Tri-State Women's Connection, Lee County Retired Teachers Association, the Keokuk Cancer Association, P.E.O., and Delta Kappa Gamma. Nancy also volunteered regularly at Meals on Wheels and in the Keokuk Public Schools after her retirement. She was an organized and dedicated individual, and was always ready to help her friends.

Nancy is survived by several cousins, and was preceded in death by her parents.

A Requiem Mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 to 11 am directly before the service. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to St. John's Episcopal Church, the American Association of University Women or a charity of your choice.
