Roy Chester Abbey 68 of Columbia, Missouri passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Boone Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. He was born April 24, 1948 in Hannibal, Missouri the son of Owen and Alice Mae Crews Abbey, Jr. Roy attended Hunnewell Schools in Hunnewell, Missouri. He was baptized of the baptist faith. Roy was a devoted and loving brother, uncle and great uncle. He enjoyed watching wrestling, westerns and karate on television. Roy worked for Boron's Manufacturing in Shelbina, Missouri until the plant closed. He then moved to Columbia, Missouri and worked at Columbia College until his retirement in 2009. Roy frequently donated to organizations that aided Children. He will be sadly missed by all. Surviviors include ten sisters Alice Crews, Kathryn Crews, Thieland Crews and Regina Crews all of Columbia, Missouri; Darla McGruder, Paula McGruder, and Laura Kitchen of Hannibal, Missouri; Yvonne McGruder and Emma Fuque of Kansas City, Missouri; Mary Shephard and Walter Abbey both of the state of Minnesota. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Owen Abbey, Jr., Alice Mae and Russell Lee Crews. Three sisters Beckey Sue Snow, Arletha Williams and Margaret Ann Dade. Two brothers Allen Lee Crews and Russell Abbey. Two nephews Christopher Allen Crews, Jarmaine Dade and one niece Amanda Lee Crews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri, Rev. Thomas Carter will officiate. Interment will be held at the St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitation will be Saturday morning until time of services at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City. Pallbearers will be Dean Maupin, Michael Wilson, D'Andres Cave, D'Antrae Crews, Lamar Roberts, Ed Talton, Clay Talton and James Ricker. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garner Funeral Home & Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri.
