Winfield S. Philbrick, a highly respected citizen of Gardiner, died at his home, 101 Higholburn street Monday afternoon, after a lingering illness. Mr. Philbrick was born in Winthrop, Maine, Feb 3, 1845, son of Franklin P. and Annabelle (Cutts) Philbrick. He was of a family of 20 children, of whom ten, four brothers and six sisters are now living. Mr. Philbrick enlisted in December 1863 in Co. I, 2nd Maine Cavalry, and served until the close of the war. He came to Gardiner early in life ad has been employed in the paper mills of our city, until poor health compelled him to cease work some four years ago.

He was a member of the Heath Post, G. A. R., Hermon Lodge, No. 32, F and A.M. Lebanon Royal Arch Chapter, No 18 and of the Maine Commandery No 1, K.T. He is survived by a widow, four brothers, Joseph Philbrick of West Gardiner, Llewellyn Philbrick South Gardiner, Frank of New Hampshire and Vernon of New Hampshire, and six sisters, Mrs. Etta Berry of Litchfield, Mrs. Lettie Wentworth of West Gardiner, Mrs. Addie Skall of Augusta, Maine, Mrs. J.Leslie Card of Wellesley, Mass., Mrs. Susie Whidden of Hartford, Conn., and Myra Atkins of Hartford, Conn. Funeral services will be held from the late home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock.
