Hype will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle and great grandfather. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, having coffee with his friends, placing bets at OTB and reading his paper. Hype was an incredible athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball, football, and track. He played professional baseball with the Atlanta Crackers and was inducted into the Newburgh Free Academy Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and attended Bowling Green State University. Hype proudly served our country in the US Navy during World War II. He was stationed in Newport, RI, New London, CT, and Midway Island in the South Pacific. He was a member of The Bachelor Club, The Moose Club, The Elks Club, Osiris Country Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Trapani and her husband Ben of Milton, NY; grandchildren, Benjamin Trapani and wife Gloria, Gary Trapani and wife Theresa, Krista Lanzoni and husband Marco, Tim Trapani and wife Jenna, Scott Trapani and wife Nicole, and Steven Trapani; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Alexa Trapani, Marlie and Marco S. Lanzoni, Scott Trapani Jr. and Timothy V. Trapani; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Eleanor, he was predeceased by his brother Russell Havens.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, November 1 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, November 2 at Lattingtown Baptist Church, Milton, with Reverend David Ballou officiating. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh.
