Ruth K. Servais, born in Alton, Illinois, on Sept. 10, 1922, passed away peacefully in Palm Desert, California, on Friday morning, April 25, 2014.

Ruth was very active in the Coachella Valley, volunteering for many years at the Eisenhower Medical Center. Ruth grew up in Alton, Illinois. She met Bernard (Ben) Servais at a munitions plant in St. Louis during World War II. When Ben returned from duty in 1948, Ruth and Ben with their young son, Michael, moved to sunny California. Ruth immediately began working in finance and accounting while Ben attended school.

Ruth loved traveling. She and Ben traveled the world and she loved sharing all of their experiences with friends and family.

Ruth is preceded in death by Ben Servais, who was also active in the Coachella Valley and volunteering at Eisenhower.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Servais, living in La Quinta, California. Ruth also had one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Marisa J. and Charles A. Knetsch, great-granddaughter, Alexia Knetsch, and great-grandson, Krystopher Knetsch.

While working at St. Joseph Hospital, Burbank, California, Ruth, along with Ben, formed the first hospital credit union for the Sisters of Providence Healthcare System in 1956. During this time, Ben and Ruth made a second home in Palm Desert Greens, Palm Desert, California, in 1976.

After retiring from St. Joseph, Ben and Ruth moved to the desert full time. Here Ruth, became very involved with Eisenhower Medical Center and the Betty Ford Center. Ruth served for 24 years as a member of the Eisenhower Medical Center Auxiliary and as a member of the board for many of those years. As a board member she was first vice president of the gift shops and then also vice president of volunteer services. She received a lifetime achievement award for her many hours of service. In 2004, Ruth became the recipient of the prestigious "Jefferson Award." This was bestowed on her by the United States Congress, the California House of Assembly and California State Senate in recognition of her outstanding and invaluable service to the community. This recognition was for her many hours of service to the Eisenhower Medical Center. Ruth is a founding member of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Ruth will be remembered during the regularly scheduled Latin Mass at Sacred Heart Parish on May 18, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's honor may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish, 43775 Deep Canyon Road, Palm Desert, CA 92206.
