Served as a Surgeon's Mate and later as a Surgeon aboard the U.S. Constellation from 1797 until his resignation in 1800. Married Judith Carter between 1801 and 1803. They initially lived in Loudoun County. In 1806 they lived in Fauquier County where they began a family. He discontinued his medical practice and turned to politics, serving in the Virginia House of Delegates in Richmond from 1810 to 1812. At the urging of his father, Isaac moved his family in 1817 to Philadelphia. Around 1822, the family moved back to Prince William County. He died of pneumonia in 1829.

Her husband Isaac Henry purchased the 330 acres of land "Spring Hill Farm" on October 14, 1822 for $3,382. At the time of her husband's death, he and others including her mother and father were buried at the "Pittsylvania" plantation.
His wife followed his death, as she was killed during the Battle of Manassas in their back yard in 1861. Their home was shelled by the Union forces, and she died in bed on the second floor. "fist civilian casualty in the Civil War" It became her demise by having Confederate soldiers occupying the house.
