Arnel "Fred" Acord, 94, of Crab Orchard passed away Friday, September 29, 2017. Born April 17, 1923 in Slab Fork, WV he was the son of the late Wilbert "Bill" Haven Acord (1898-1978) & Mary Francis Cook-Acord (1887-1992).
Fred worked as a preparation plant operator at the Slab Fork Coal Company for close to 40 years. He was a loving father who always put family first and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.
Besides his parents Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Eleanor Cozart-Acord (1925-2007) whom he married on October 14, 1941 in Lester, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1941, Page 431, Application Date: October 6, 1941); sons, Larry Douglas Acord Sr. (1945-1976), and Elmer Thomas Acord (1952-2017); daughter, Connie Acord-Cole (Deceased); brothers, Lowell Acord (Deceased), Jim Acord (Deceased), Basil Acord (Deceased), and Evert Harold Acord (1937-2000) and sisters, Charlotte Manerva, Thelma Ruth and Jessie Lorene Acord-Smith (1927-2005).
Fred is survived by his sons, Gary Acord and Arnold Acord; sisters, Eunice Acord-Roop, Edith Acord, Billie Jean Acord-Davis and Willie Acord-Roe; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Artie Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Acord Mountain Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service on Tuesday.
