PFC Gary Eugene McCaslin, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Vale, NC.

Private First Class Gary Eugene McCaslin was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC McCaslin served our country until September 17th, 1966 in South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Gary died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. Gary was born on December 27th, 1945 in Vale, North Carolina. PFC McCaslin is on panel 10E, line 108 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

He was the son of Mrs Margaret McCaslin Alexander, 1408 Main Avenue N.W., Hickory, NC. Grandson of Mrs Grace Hood McCaslin, Route 1, Vale, North Carolina.

He served with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division(AMBL), USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
