Specialist Four Willie B McNeill was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 McNeill served our country until February 10th, 1968 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Willie died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. Willie was born on February 18th, 1948 in Fairmont, North Carolina. SP4 McNeill is on panel 38E, line 070 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Sp4 Willie B McNeill, 19, who was killed in action in Vietnam February 10, will be conducted Wednesday at 2pm in St John Methodist Church, Fairmont. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. The Reverend T. Campbell will officiate. He is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs Nelson McNeill of Route 2; a brother, Willie James McNeill of Philadelphia, PA; a sister, Bernice of the home; his Grandmother, Mrs Mary Lindsey.
He was the son of Mr Nelson McNeill and Mrs Nancy Lindsey McNeill, Route #2, Box 440, Fairmont, NC.
He served with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, "Wolfhounds", 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
