Fred passed away peacefully at Rosehedge House near the Pinehurst home he helped build with his life partner of 25 years, Chuck Stalnaker.

An artisan of many talents, Fred was especially proud of the way he could turn a mess of a house into a thing of beauty. He dabbled in oils and inks and some stained glass, but his artistry showed best in the houses he refurbished.

A veteran of Vietnam (which he never talked about), he first worked in Seattle as a bartender/manager of Spags Tavern during the early 70s. Before his retirement in 1992, Fred had been the mailroom/supply coordinator for the St. Paul Insurance Co., a 15-year job he really enjoyed.

A Taurus in all ways, Fred lived his life to the fullest, taking charge when needed and always finding satisfaction in a job well done. Whether telling jokes or relating an experience, Fred was ready to share his (and Chuck's) adventures with anyone who was willing to listen.

In addition to Chuck, Fred is survived by his mother, Frances; his brother, Bill, his sister, Hazel; two sons, Richard and John; grandchildren Christine, Machelle, Ricky and Jessica; aunt and uncle Anna and Lee; nieces Kathy and Liz; and his many friends across the nation.

A memorial gathering will be at Chuck and Fred's residence on Saturday, October 1, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements through Butterworth Mortuary.

Remembrances to the Northwest AIDS Foundation or Rosehedge House.
