Loraine G. La Farge, 81, of Carefree, a homemaker, died Oct. 7, 1990. She was born in Missouri. Survivors include her sons, John and James Franciscus; one brother; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Contributions: Multiple Sclerosis Society, 426 E. Southern Ave., Tempe 85282. Green Acres Mortuary, Scottsdale.
Note that her first marriage was to John Allen Franciscus, and they had two sons, John and James Grover Franciscus. On May 24, 1942 her husband was on a United Army Air Force Lockheed C40-D taking him and other pilots from Bolling Field, District of Columbia, to Houlton Air Force Base, Maine. The pilots were to ferry bombers across the Atlantic. However, the Lockheed commuter plane crashed 5 miles northeast of Howe Brook, Maine, killing all on board.
Her actor-son James Franciscus said that after the death, he, his mother, and brother returned to St. Louis. Several years later, he said, she met and married Francis La Farge, a stockbroker who had come to St. Louis on business. After the marriage (1946), the newly created family moved to New York. Her second husband, Francis Willing La Farge, is believed to have died in 1981 in Arizona.
