Mark Anthony-Gerard Davis (my 1st cousin) was born to the late Joseph "Pete" Davis (b. 1946-d.2007) and the late Annie Henderson (b. 1947-d.2002) on July 17th 1965 in Spartanburg, SC. He was the spitting image of my Uncle Pete (my mom's brother) and was so pretty (handsome) as a little boy that some of the neighborhood boys thought that he was a sissy! But under his pleasant, gregarious and sensitive deameanor was a fierce will of steel and a volcanic temper which, if pushed, he could get down & dirty with the best of them! Mark was an old soul trapped in a young body!--He was the first out of all of our little clique (those born between 1961 and 1969)
of the 40+ Davis grandchildren to use profanity, smoke weed & cigarettes, loose his virginity, drive a car, drink, etc., all before the age of 14!!---Yeah, the kid was very fast just like his father, my Uncle Pete, a born hustler! He had a wonderful sense of humor that was both ironic and sarcastic, but also very rife with wit and intelligence! He could've easily been a comedian if he'd wanted to! He had an endearing quality about him that won him freinds easily and was no slouch with the young ladies either! But, like mine, his life was no crystal stair either, and was filled with the harsh realities of modern urban life and he got crossed up and went the wrong way as so many others do. He and I were close up until I was 17 and he was 16, then we just kind of grew in different directions and lost touch over the years, but he always kept up with my younger brother who is a bit of a ramblin' rogue himself, so they clicked more I guess.
Anywayz, I would hear from him sporadically or through my brother that he'd been involved in some illegal activities and done a little time, had been an alcoholic but got clean & sober and found a good woman that got him on the right track and that they had built a house in Stone Mountain, Ga. outside of Atlanta, where he had lived since he was about 10 yrs old. He would always come and spend the summers with me and my brothers as a kid. Well, just as his life was turning around for the better and he and his new wife were planning a family, tragedy struck and he was killed in a hit-and-run car accident on October 15th, 2004. Even though we weren't as close as we had been as kids, I still felt sad that this had to happened to him. He was only 39 yrs old! His mother Annie had already preceeded him in death by 2 yrs, but my Uncle Pete, whom he was so close to and resembled so much both physically and personality-wise was absolutely devastated by his death! He just joined Mark in death on July 1st, 2007.
But I know Mark is up there with his mom & pop and watching over surviving sisters, Veronica & Lisa, as well as his young wife, Nina, his sons Spencer & Mark Jr.
and his daughter Alexis who were also devastated by
his sudden passing. He also had two younger brothers,
Omar and Ashley, whom he held dear as well.
If I know that boy, he's up there in heaven telling jokes and partaking in a freindly game of "tonk" or "spades" or shooting dice with the angels and keeping them roaring with laughter! Here's 2 U Cuz'!!---Love Ya Always!---Cousin Reesy
