Mr. Gerald Thomas Vance, age 61, of Statesville, NC, formerly of Mavisdale, VA passed away Friday February 26, 2010 at his home. Born on April 29, 1948, he was the son of the late Finley & Hazel Vance. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War. Gerald was a member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1509, having worked at VP # 1 for 23 years and also had been employed at Toter, Inc. in Statesville for 10 years prior to retirement.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Dorothy Colleen Ratliff and one brother Pat Vance.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rita Rasnake Vance; two sons Kevin Vance & wife Wendy and Jamie Vance both of Statesville, NC; two grandsons Colby & Ethan Vance; three sisters Jean Rowe of Rowe, VA; Shirley Compton & husband Roby of Vansant, VA and Velma Harman & husband Doug of Bluefield, WV.
Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Thomas Vance will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday March 1, 2010 at the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, VA with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers. Casey-Short V.F.W. Post 9640 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. The Family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain, VA from 6-8 P.M. Sunday. Buchanan Funeral Service is serving the Vance Family.
