Robert D. Shadwell, 74 of Portage, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Mr. Shadwell was an area resident since 1995 coming from Effingham, Illinois. He was a graduate of Effingham, High School, a member of First Christian Church.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #260 and the VFW in Hobart. Mr. Shadwell worked as a carpentar for Pacesetters Corporation, and was a Korean war veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Shadwell was born January 18, 1933 to the late John and Alpha (Poe) Shadwell.
He was married on February 10, 1997 in Arkansas to Loveda E. Fenton who survives of Portage. He is also survived by son, Dennis Shadwell of Gulfport, Mississippi and daughter Marsha (Harold) Kingery of Portage, step children, Tom (April) Kingrey of Lake Station and Tim Kingery of New Orleans, Louisanna; daughters Judy (William) Vaughn of Pinson, Alabama, Karen (Jim) Helmecy of Portage, Vicky (Bernard) Wright of Portage and Trudy Cunningham of Portage; brothers, Howard Shadwell of Paris, Texas, John (Jean) Shadwell of Freedom, California; sister, Barbara Shadwell of Mcleansboro, Illinois; 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd, Jack and Frank Shadwell, and his parents.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 26, 2007 from 2-8 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, Portage, Indiana.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6491 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana with The Rev. Rick Henderson officiating. Interment in the Heritage Cemetery, Portage Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County.
