PHOENIX -- It is with our great love we announce that Dorothy Eileen Dickinson Abel, 96, passed away on March 1, 2017, at her home in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by many of her children.
She was the widow of Roy K. Abel; mother of Dave (Carol), Joe (Fran), Trudy (deceased), Jerry (Frances) - both deceased), Tom (Kathy), Paul, John (Barb), Ellen (Bill), Robert, Joyce, and Nancy; grandmother of Kathy, Kendra, Joe, Mary, Barb, Rick, John, Debbie, Anthony, Jennifer, Jimmy, Stephanie, Jolene, Nathan (deceased), Jeff, Talia, Katie, Eileen, Jojo, Bonnie, Penny, Cubby, Dannette, Ken, and Nick and their spouses; many great-grandchildren; and great-granddog, Bowzer.
A military wife, she has made homes in places including Sierra Vista, Hereford, Tucson, Phoenix, Show Low, and Pinetop in Arizona; as well as Karlsruhe, Germany; Illinois, Mississippi, Georgia, and Washington state. She had a knack whereever she was for making a welcoming and cozy place for all her family and friends both in her home and in her heart, and always decorated for the appropriate holiday. She had "everything in its place and a place for everything," so don't put your keys down or they are apt to be assigned to a place as neat, tidy, and orderly as it was unknown to anyone but her.
We'd like to thank all who prayed for her and especially thank her caring aide, Tracy, and her family Mike, Leia, and Sam for all your love, help, and presence during our last years with her. We will all miss her greatly.
A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:00 a.m. on March 17, 2017, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 800 Taylor Drive NW, in Sierra Vista, Arizona, followed by graveside services at the Old Post Cemetery at Ft. Huachuca.
