Rev. Robert V. Reagan, 67, formerly of Beaver Cove and Greenville, passed away on August 16, 2014 at his home in North Lake Worth, Florida.
He was born February 25, 1947, to Eileen (Farrell) Reagan and Robert V. Reagan. "Father Rob" was a 1969 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, with a B.A in English Literature. He received a Juris Doctor from the Indiana University School of Law in 1978, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maine School of Business in 1985. He also received a Master of Arts in Theology and Theological Studies from St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary.
In the 1960s and 1970s his childhood summers were spent on Moosehead Lake at Harford's Point where his parents owned a summer home.
He returned to Maine during his service in the United States Air Force, stationed at Loring AFB in Limestone as a Navigator on B-52 aircraft. He served as a member of the Indiana Air National Guard while attending law school on the G.I Bill, and returned to active duty in the Judge Advocate General Office. Assignments included Chief of Military Justice at Plattsburgh AFB, NY, and serving on the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, NY. Father Rob was among the eighty-nine Maine Military Veterans featured in the book "Quiet Courage: Stories of the Unselfish Dedication of Maine Veterans". His military decorations included the Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, National Defense Service Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Upon leaving the Air Force, he returned to Maine, spending fourteen years at Maine Maritime Academy as the in-house attorney, Personnel Director, and teaching. He studied for the priesthood for the Diocese of Orlando and was ordained a Catholic priest on May 29, 2004 and was assigned Parochial Vicar at St. Charles Borromeo Parish Orlando, Florida. In 2005 he was forced to retire due to declining health and in 2006 returned to Maine, which he considered his "home."
From 2006 to 2013 he lived in Greenville and helped the surrounding parishes, to the extent his health allowed. In 2009, he requested incardination into the Diocese of Portland which was granted February 11, 2010. He served the Greenville community as the Chaplain for the Cecil R. Cole Post 94 of the American Legion, the Police, and Fire Departments and, volunteered his services to the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Department. Father Rob instituted the Annual First Responders Service, and attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. He served on the Shaw Public Library Association Board as well as the Shaw Public Library Board of Trustees, and was the driving force in the effort to acquire the building that became the Davis Annex (housing the Children's Library).
After moving to Florida in the spring of 2013, Father Rob continued his service at St. Matthew's Church in Lake Wales, Florida and also served as Chaplain with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eileen and Robert; and is survived by his sister, Kathleen Reagan; and his beloved step-daughter, Anastazya Mattox.
A funeral celebration will occur on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Greenville, with the Reception of the Body at 9:00 AM, followed by a time of wake and visitation from 9:30-10:45 AM in the Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, with the Most Rev. Robert P. Deeley presiding, and Fr. Richard Malo, Homilist. The committal will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. Following the committal, there will be a reception at the Holy Family Church Hall.
