Dodge City,Ks. -- Margarita H. Amaro, 87, passed away March 12,2017 at Dodge City,Ks. She was born on February 17,1930 in Cd. Juarez, Chilhuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Efren and Ramona Hernandez.

Margarita went to school in Mexico. She married Victor Amaro on January 15,1947 in CD. Juarez Chilhuahua, Mexico. She worked as a teachers helper for many years at Miller Elementary in Dodge City, where she helped form the Mothers Club that helped non-English speaking families transition into the school settings. Margarita also worked at the Dodge City Public Library for 21 years until she retired. She was involved in many church organizations, VFW women's auxiliary, Mothers Club at Miller Elementary, Hispanic choir and the altar society. She has received many awards through the organizations listed above.

Margarita is preceded in death by her parents, Ramona and Efren Hernandez; sisters: Maria Echeveria and goya Escapite; brothers: Heriberto Hernandez, Amador Hernandez, Fernando Hernandez, Luis Hernandez, Victor Hernandez and Manuel Hernandez; son-in-law, Eddie Garduno; two grandsons: Victor J. Amaro III and Michael Anthony Amaro.

Margarita is survived by her children: Victor Amaro and wife Rhonda of Dodge City, Cecilia Dominguez and husband Juan of Dodge City, Patricia Garduno of Pueblo, CO, John Amaro and wife Brenda of Lenexa and Arturo Amaro and wife Shelly of Dodge City; as well as 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The family of Margarita Amaro wishes to extend our sincere Thanks to the many doctors and nurses of Western Plains Medical Complex who helped care for our mother. Also to the Manor of the Plains for the care she was given while there. Thank you all for the prayers for our family.

Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Thursday, March 16,2017 at 2:00 PM with Father Wesley Schawe presiding. A Vigil service will be held Wednesday, March 15,2017 at 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City with Father Aneesh Parappanuttu presiding.
