Later that same year in 1850 the family relocated to Iowa (the 1856 Iowa State Census notes they had been in Iowa for six years). According to the 1854 Iowa State Census John and family (1 male and 4 females - likely his wife Sophia and three daughters Elizabeth, Mary, and Catharine) were in Muscatine City in Muscatine County. That census lists John as a voter. The 1856 Iowa State Census lists him as a Naturalized Citizen.
The 1860 US Census for Muscatine shows that living nearby to Sophia and John (5 dwellings away in fact) was the household of Fredrick Tickey, a 38 year old plasterer from Hannover, Germany. Sophia was 34 in 1860 – given Sophia and Fredrick‘s identical surnames, birth locations, similar ages, and ongoing proximal residences, it is possible that Fredrick was Sophia’s older brother. Note that this Fredrick was in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1850 while Sophia and John were across the Ohio River in Covington, KY in 1850. Frederick also lived in Muscatine until his death in 1903. The 1900 US Census for Frederick notes that he arrived in the US in 1844.
John & Sophia had eight children in 17 years:
1) Elizabeth N Allhausen b.1850 – d.1936
2) Mary C Allhausen b.1852
3) Katherine Ann Allhausen b.1854 – d.1929
4) Sophia S Allhausen b.1856 – d.1875
5) Anna Katherine Allhausen b.1858 – d.1908
6) Rosa C Allhausen b.1861 – d.1927
7) Susannah Allhausen b.1863 – d.1905
8) Julia Henrietta Elizabeth Allhausen b.1867 – d.1914
Various Iowa State and US Census show that they lived together on 8th Street in Muscatine City. In 1880, at age 62, John and wife Sophia, age 54, were living with their daughter Julia, age 13, daughter Kate Morley and her two children Gracie & Laura, and daughter Rosie Burns and her two children Amos & Sophia.
Sophia died of disease of liver and ‘dropsy’ (edema) at the age of 60 on March 13, 1886 in Muscatine City and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery.
