Miss Marcella Annie Mitchell, 65, of Rt. 6, Bassett, died Tue in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born Jan 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late James O. and Polly Craig Mitchell of Henry Co. She attended Henry County schools and was a member of Christian Faith Baptist Church near Ferrum. Surviving are 1 brother Harry O. Mitchell of Rt. 6, with whom she made her home and several nieces and nephews. Services were conducted at Mt. Herman Church of the Brethren, Bassett.

Marcella: Annie never married. She lived with her mother Pollie behind Harry and Rachael Mitchell until her mother died. Then she moved in with Harry and Rachael (1950-1979). Annie had emphysema and was always sickly. She went to church every Sunday. According to Rachael Mitchell, Annie made crepe paper flowers. Per Hilda, Annie made lots of crafts: YoYo quilts, rag rugs, etc. She read her Bible frequently and was a second mother to Rachael and Harry Mitchell's children. Hilda said that Annie made them so many rag rugs that when they got dirty, they would throw them out. Now she would give anything to have one of them.
