Son of Nathaniel Johnson and Sophia Van Gelder.

Nathaniel Johnson was born circa 1736 (assuming eldest son).

He married Eleanor Vanderbilt, daughter of Jacob Vanderbilt and Mary Sprague, on 2 September 1765.

He was made an executor of the will of Mary Sprague on 12 December 1781; proved 18 Dec 1781. Mary Vanderbilt of Staten Island in the County of Richmond, widow, being weal in body. To son Cornelius my house I now live in, with all my lands I now possess, on condition he paying six months after my decease to my (son?) John Vanderbilt, £100; unto my son Oliver, £100. Unto my two daughters Eloner Johnson and Doretea Garrison, all my wearing apparel to be divided between them, share alike. Likewise to my said two daughters and my grandson, Jacob Vanderbilt, all my moveable estate (my funeral expenses first being paid). I make my two sons, Oliver and Cornelius, and my son-in-law, Nathaniel Johnson, my executors. Witnesses: Christian Jacobsen, yeoman, John Barbank, yeoman, Mary Barbank.

Will dated 9 February 1790 proved 14 Oct 1797. Describes himself of the township of Westfield and County of Richmond. No wife is mentioned. Son Nathaniel called the eldest son. Son Winant received most of the estate. A grandaughter Sophia, daughter of Winant, received furniture. (Richmond Co. Surrogate's Court).
