Jasper Pence died at his late residence in Concord Township two and a half miles east of Millerstown, Dec. 26, 1896. He was the youngest son of Jacob and Mahala Pence, his father preceding him to the better land some 12 years ago. His widow and little boy seven years old and also his mother, two sisters and three brothers are left to mourn his loss.
The deceased was loved by all who knew him, being strictly honest with his fellow men. He united with the Baptist church at Millerstown in February 1884. During his long suffering he was never heard to utter a word of discontent. He was a faithful Brother of the K of P lodge of Urbana, which order assisted by the Westville and St. Paris lodges were represented.
So beautiful was the impressive ceremony conducted by these orders that any person not connected with the order could plainly see the desire they had to grasp each others hands again on the other shore, as they surely do as they are called to their home beyond.
The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Ny. Matthews, of DeGraff, was also impressive.
