SHIRLEY E. BARTA
Shirley Elizabeth (Stewart) Barta was born March 12, 1921 in Belvidere, Nebraska to Arthur and Ruhama (Rakestraw) Stewart of Alexandria, Nebraska,. Shirley was a longtime resident of the Red Cloud community after her marriage to Robert George Barta on June 25, 1939 at the Presbyterian Church of Alexandria, Nebraska. To this union two children were born, Richard A. and Kiley K.

Shirley was an active worker for the good of the community having contributed 500 volunteer hours as a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at the Webster County Community Hospital, a charter member of the Centennial Extension Club, a Past Matron of Charity Chapter No. 47 Order of the Eastern Star of which she was a 50 year member and a member of the Congregational-Christian Church, having served on the memorial committee. She enjoyed the companionship of her friends at the Play-Mor Bridge Club, the Centennial Extension Club and the every day socializing of her many friends as she worked with them at the Peoples-Webster County Bank, where she was employed for 30 years, having retired December 23, 1988.

Shirley is survived by two children, a son Dr. Richard Barta and wife Joy; a daughter Kiley Korf; five grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Lee Pasmore of Monett, Missouri and a number of aunts, nephews, friends and neighbors. Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Barta; her parents, Arthur and Ruhama Stewart; two infant brothers, Percy and Dwayne; and her son-in-law, Sherwood Korf.

Shirley passed away on Sunday, July 1, 1990 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud, Nebraska after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 1990 from the Congregational-Christian Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Kenneth Doughman officiating. The musical selections of "The Lord's Prayer" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung. Interment was in the Red Cloud Cemetery with the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud in charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund was established by the family.
