According to the Lansing State Journal (Lansing, Michigan) Monday 12 July 1993 "He was trying to hook an advertisement banner to the tail of the plane when it stalled and veered to the left. Hause tried to regain control of the plane, but it crashed nose-first into the field." Gerald died at the Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital. Gerald, a young and accomplished pilot, was also a very active volunteer for the Wings of Mercy organization.
