Dorothy Charlotte “Sitty” Cannon, 91, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Friday night, March 17, 2017 at Medicalodges in Arkansas City.
Born December 17, 1925 in Burden, Kansas, she was the daughter of H.P. “Hank” and Eunice Faye (Kaats) Triplett. She was raised and received her education in Burden, graduating from Burden High School in 1945. She worked as a teller for the State Bank of Burden until 1951.
Sitty was united in marriage to Max Cannon on May 11, 1946 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. Max and Dorothy made their lifelong home in Burden. Sitty made a career as a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. Max preceded her in death on February 14, 2005.
She was a lifelong member of the Burden Baptist Church. She was involved in Bible study groups, the Girls Auxiliary Church Group, and taught Sunday School for many years. She was very active in the Burden Community. She enjoyed reading novels, visiting and loved her church and her family. Sitty often said her greatest accomplishment was raising two good sons.
Her family includes: Her sons: Ron Cannon and wife, Teresa of Burden; Jon Cannon and wife, Janet of Arkansas City; Her grandsons: Chris Cannon and wife, Mandy of Burden; Tate Cannon of Arkansas City; Hayes Cannon of Arkansas City; Her great grandchildren: Libby Cannon and Max Cannon of Burden; Her nephews: Bob Triplett of Burden; Terry Triplett of Winfield; Harold “Rip” Daniels of Abilene; and Her great nephews: Darren Triplett of Burden and Kenneth L. Triplett of Cambridge.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sitty was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Kenneth Triplett.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Sitty’s name for the Burden Baptist Church Building Fund and the Max and Sitty Cannon Endowment Fund at Cowley County Community College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
