Mr. Durbin was born 27 April 1868 and reared in Noble township. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas N. Durbin. He is the first member of this large immediate family to pass away.
On 19 October 1885 he married Hattie Austin, who is still living. The eight children of this union survive their father. They are: four sons, William and Alfred both of Noble township; George of St. Paul; and Thomas of Addison township; and four daughters, Mrs. Hershel Kerr, of Adams township in Decatur county; Mrs. Ernest Wright and Mrs. Chester Rush, both of Noble township; and Mrs. Guy Todd, of Tipton county.
Twenty-three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Nettie Sliger of Indianapolis, and one brother E. H. Durbin of Noble township also survive, as do several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Durbin had been a member of the Methodist church since his boyhood days.
Funeral services were in the hands of director C. F. Fix, and were held in the Valley church Saturday norning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Homer Manuel of the St. Paul Methodist church read the ceremony. Burial followed in the Van Pelt cemetery.
Friends called at the late home anytime after 12 noon on Friday.
