Husband of Mary Bohlen Ahern whose parents were Dennis Bohlen and Margaret Walsh Bohlen, both of Eire. Mary Ahern was born in Memphis and died August 13, 1936, aged 57.

WILLIAM J. AHERN, one of the best known members of the Memphis Fire Department, and for many years secretary of the Fire Relief Association, died at his home, 379 North Waldran, at 10:30 o'clock last night. Mr. Ahern had been in poor health for some time, but had been away from his post at fire headquarters only two days when he died. His first connection with fire fighting in Memphis was more than 35 years ago when he became a member of the Salvage Corps. He stayed with that organization 25 years, rising in the rank of captain. When John Moore, now retired, became chief of the department in 1927, Mr. Ahern left the Salvage Corps and became a member of the fire department. At the time of his death in addition to his duties with the relief association, he served as store-master for the department.
Mr. Ahern leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Bohlen Ahern; three daughters, Mrs. W. L. Rice and Elizabeth and Nellie Ahern, and two sons, Joseph and James Ahern. Funeral arrangements, in charge of J. J. Collins, have not been completed. ~~~ THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL, Memphis, TN, Jan. 14, 1936, page 7
