Elsie Mae Pennington Fisher, 93, died Friday, March 17, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was born February 19, 1924, in Liberal, Kansas, to Elijah (Bide) Andrew and Opal Clara (Childears) Pennington. She attended rural Kearny County and Liberal, Kansas, schools and graduated from Liberal High School in 1943. She graduated from Denver Business College in 1945.

On June 11, 1949, Elsie married Bradley Clinton Fisher in Liberal. They pastored Friends Churches in Friendship, KS, Mt. Ayr, KS, Alton, KS, Springfield, CO, Topeka, KS, Seiling, OK, Center, Co, Walsh, CO and Arkansas City, KS. They also pastored Methodist churches in the Arkansas City, KS area for years. Elsie worked as bookkeeper for Friends Special Schools in San Antonio, TX from 1971-1974 and Central Distributing in Liberal, KS. She served as a pastor’s wife for over fifty years, teaching Sunday School and other children’s programs. She was able to use her creative, artistic ability in everything she did. Elsie loved painting and poetry.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley, who died October 29, 2007; her parents; three brothers: James, Lester, and Ernest; and sister, Mabel Grusing.

Elsie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include her daughters, Treva Clowe and husband Gary of Colorado Springs, CO, Euleta Barr of Liberal, KS, and Lynnetta Chitwood and husband David of Arkansas City, KS; sons Mark and wife Brinda of LaJunta, CO, and John and wife Cindy of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Heather Gundling and husband Jeremy of Friendswood, TX, Jason Clowe and wife Jackie of Monument, CO, Phillip Barr and wife Megan of Cheyenne, WY, Davina Barr of Kansas City, MO, Kelly Chitwood of Witchita, KS, Joshua and Kaleb Fisher of LaJunta, CO; Chris, Jordan, Shawn and Casie Fisher of Tulsa, OK; sisters, Ruth Fawcett of Kismet, KS, Mary Few of Scottsdale, AZ, Nina Bailey of Kansas City, MO, and Esther Spaulding of Canyon, TX; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 26 at the Friends Church, 1650 N. Western Ave., in Liberal, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Arkalon Cemetery in rural Seward County.
