August (von Kniller) Kneller was a chld in Klein Arnsdorf, East Prussia, near Gross Arnsdorf (now Jarnoltowko, Poland, near Jarnoltowo, Poland). August was the oldest child of his father's second marriage, to Dorothea Reisberg. His full sibling was Emilie von Kniller, who married Fred Rittmeier. His younger half-siblings, by the third wife Charlotte, were Anna and Friedrich von Kniller ("Fred Kneller"). The family used the name spelling "Kneller" in Chicago. August's first wife was Elizabeth Ende, who he married on 4 Sep 1900 in Kane County, IL. They were the parents of Elsie Kneller Goltermann, Gertrude Kneller Laspesa, and a son August who died in 1906 as an infant. Elizabeth Ende died in 1907, and August remarried to Antonie Vetter on 17 July 1909 in Chicago. August and Antonie had a son William Walter Kneller in 1910, who died in 1911. Their second son was Arthur Edward Kneller, born in 1911.
