ARCHITECT FRED A. BRINKMAN DIES
Fred A. Brinkman, 68, widely known Kalispell architect, died at his Kalispell home early Sunday, apparently of a heart attack.
A member of the firm of Brinkman & Lennon, architects and engineers, Mr. Brinkman designed buildings at Montana State University and the Glasgow Air Force Base. He also designed the Missoula High School building.
He was born Nov. 23, 1892, in Spokane and came to Kalispell with his parents when six months old. He graduated from Flathead County High School, attended the University of Wisconsin for one year and then entered the University of Michigan, graduating from that school in architecture.
He was employed at the Panama Canal in architectual work until World War I, when he served as an officer. After the war he went to Billings, where he was employed for two years before returning to Kalispell to establish his architectual firm.
He became well known in school construction. He also engaged in work on defense projects in the Northwest and with the National Park Service.
He was a member of the National American Institute of Architects, and was a Past President and member of the board of examiners of the Montana chapter of American Institute of Architects. He was active in civic and local affairs, serving on the board of directors of the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Chamber. He also was a former member of the Flathead county high school board, and the Salvation Army, a 37-year member of the Kalispell Kiwanis Club, serving as president in 1927. Mr. Brinkman had been active with the Flathead County Airport since its origin, and had served as band president. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.
SURVIVING are his wife, Irma; one daughter, Mrs. William C. (Rosalie) Heinecke of Kalispell; one brother, Walter C. Brinkman of Kalispell; and four grandsons.
Funeral services have been set for Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran church with the pastor, Rev. Allen Schuldeiss, officiating. Interment will follow in the Conrad Memorial cemetery with military graveside honors.
A Fred A. Brinkman Trinity Lutheran School Library Memorial has been established. Friends wishing to contribute to the Libary Memorial will be appreciated.
