Bobby Joe Beard, 79, of San Antonio, TX went to be with his Lord and savior on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Bob passed away with his loving family by his side.

He was born on February 8, 1932 in El Paso, TX to Raymond Beard and wife, Thera Ersie Hughes Beard. He was raised in San Antonio where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1949. He was an excellent high school athlete. He married the love of his life, Emmajean Ewald Beard of San Antonio, TX on November 2, 1951. He attended San Antonio College and graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Bob served in the United States Army Reserves Military Company 431 from 1950 thru 1958 while attaining the rank of Sergeant. He began his professional career as a geological and engineering draftsman with Standard Oil of Indiana. His career led him coast to coast, covered most phases of the energy business and spanned an illustrious 43 years until he retired as Chairman, President and CEO of Gulf Resources Corporation.

Bob served as Vice President of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association from 1978 thru 1983 and was a Founder and Director of the Petroleum Club of San Antonio. He served as a Director on numerous bank boards and was a Founder and Director of the First National Bank of Zapata, TX. During his career he built several real estate subdivisions while President of Gulf Energy Development Corporation and Park Mountain Development Corporation. He served as a member of the Advisory Board for the School of Business Administration at Trinity University, a member of the Presidents Council for the School of Business at St. Mary' s University and Chairman of the Commission on Education and Jefferson Methodist Church.

Bob was one of the pioneers of Northside Independent School District. His forward thinking as a member, Vice President and President of the Northside Board of Trustees from 1967 to 1974, helped form what is now one of the premier school districts in the country. In his retirement one of his greatest passions was participating with the staff and children at Bob J. Beard Elementary School. He loved all his young "buckaroos".

Bob embodied the spirit of community involvement and was actively involved in the life of the community. He was a Methodist for over 60 years and was most recently a member of University United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Beard & Thera Hughes Beard and sister, Doris Rae Beard Wharton and his brother, Donald Fay Beard.

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, Emmajean Ewald Beard, he is survived by his four children and their spouses: Bradley Kent Beard and wife, Natalia Berdyukova Beard; Donald Ray Beard and wife, Lisa Mernin Beard; Lana Jean Beard Cortez and husband, Diego Damian Cortez; and Robert J. Beard and wife, Tiffany Michelle Stuart Beard. Further, Bob is survived by fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren's names are: Brad Welder Beard; Clayton Grant Beard; Jacob Ewald Beard; Allison Joanne Beard; Tristan Connor Beard; Justin David Rogers and wife, Tiffany Janel Gueringer Rogers; Jared Blake Rogers; Rachel Jean Rogers Trub and husband, Christopher Neil Trub; Brayden J. Beard; Bryce David Beard; Jarrett Coy Beard; Judson Stuart Beard; Griffin Matthew Beard; Alexa Kailee Beard; Reese Kelly Rogers; and Teagan Mae Rogers.
